For our 22nd Anniversary we had a long weekend in the Trossachs, Scotland.

It was organised by Julie, and kept as a surprise to me.

We dinned at Nick Nairn’s restaurant, and stayed at his brother’s holiday lodges near Aberfoyle.

The lodges are close to Lake of Menteith

There is a large population of mallard ducks

Given half a chance the ducks will come in and help themselves to any snacks available

Nick’s restaurant is very close by his brother’s lodges.

The food is excellent bistro style, rather than high cuisine: relaxed and informal; excellent.

We were very lucky with the weather, especially for our second day’s cycling

The road on the north shore of Loch Katrine is for walking and cycling: no cars.

A popular trip is to take the Sir Walter Scott (running since 1900) to the far-end of the loch and walk or cycle back.

We opted to cycle there and back: 26-miles, average-C(80W), around 3-hours of cycling.

It’s great to have so much excellent on-road cycling free of cars

We had glorious weather: 18degC, no wind and blue sky

We saw more blue-bells than we’ve ever seen before: the air has heavy with fragrance

At the far end of Loch Katrine there is an excellent café. A good place for coffee and cake before heading back

It was a great long weekend for our anniversary

Cheers!
