Summer 2025 One of the hottest summers we’ve experience since moving to Scotland. Here are a few photos of how we enjoyed the weather.
We visited Vindolanda, my favourite Roman Fort on Hadrian’s Wall.
On the hottest day of the summer (26degC), Julie’s new hip was given its biggest challenge to date: an 8-miles walk in north Northumberland. <Click here> for a Google Map of the walk
The moors of Northumberland are very quiet, we saw only one other group of folk the whole day.
A highlight of the walk was a visit to the mysterious Cateran Hole. Factually it is a rift-fissure cave, but local legend is much more romantic. In the local direct a cateran is an outlaw, and that offers a clue to why this cave has been augmented with steps to ease access to it. It is unknown who constructed the steps; there are no records from a time before they were placed. The cave is certainly big enough to hold considerable quantities of contraband! Cheers!
