And as always happens in May, the whole garden seems to be filled with aquilegia (I&#8217;m not good at weeding them out).  It therefore seems fitting to go for an aquilegia special for this week&#8217;s #SixOnSaturday.  First up, is the basic purple.  This must be close to th wild-type as about 70% of the plants have colour like this one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1871\" height=\"1351\" src=\"https:\/\/balmerino.ddns.net\/geekygarden\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/purple.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2119\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the flowers that come are doubles.  This one, a double pink tone, has a wonderful form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1570\" height=\"1122\" src=\"https:\/\/balmerino.ddns.net\/geekygarden\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/pink-double-aquil.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2120\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In stark contrast, perhaps the most surprising is a coupel of plants that offer an almost chocolate brown, with simple spikey flower shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1889\" height=\"988\" src=\"https:\/\/balmerino.ddns.net\/geekygarden\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/choc.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2121\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Pale pink appears often, I like the horns on the back of each petal on this one, each ending in a purple point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1485\" height=\"1085\" src=\"https:\/\/balmerino.ddns.net\/geekygarden\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/pale-pink.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2122\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A few plants offer the simplest pure white flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2188\" height=\"1512\" src=\"https:\/\/balmerino.ddns.net\/geekygarden\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/white.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2123\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, there seem to be a wider range of darker pinks too, perhaps I did manage to weed out some of those purples last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1530\" height=\"1100\" src=\"https:\/\/balmerino.ddns.net\/geekygarden\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/dark-pink.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2124\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Just a small sample of the huge numbers of these glorious flowers that bring such a joy to mid spring.
